For several months a small team of people has been meeting, praying and planning for the possibility of starting an English as a Second Language (ESL) ministry here at Davisville. We are now ready to kick off the ministry and ask for your help by volunteering in any one of a variety of ways.
Why ESL?
Did you know that 24% of Centennial School District students live in a home where English is not the primary language? And despite several successful ESL programs in our area, many people cannot access classes because waiting lists are too long. The need to learn English is critical to the refugees and immigrants living in the area around Davisville, and we believe that by helping to meet that need, the gospel of Jesus Christ can be effectively shared in both word and deed.
Why Now?
Because the nations have come to Davisville! We all can see the changing demographics of our community. We hear the variety of foreign languages spoken when we are out and about in the community. There likely has never been a time in Bucks County when so many different and vibrant cultures have been living together in one place. What an amazing opportunity!
What Will it Look Like?
Lord willing the ministry will meet at Davisville on Monday evenings from 7 PM - 8:30 PM beginning October 7th. The session will run for 10 weeks. We are hoping to draw parents of Centennial children, and the extended community.
What Can You Do?
We’re glad you asked! There are so many ways you can volunteer to be a part of this exciting ministry, and none of them require you to be an English teacher or to be able to speak any foreign languages! There are opportunities for teachers, teaching assistants, conversation partners, child care workers, greeters/helpers, administrative/computer support, teacher lesson support, prayer partners and probably a bunch of things we haven’t thought of yet! Click here or the button below for the volunteer application where you can indicate your interest. If you have any questions, feel free to email lead@davisville.org.
“He enacts justice for orphans and widows, and he loves immigrants, giving them food and clothing. That means you must also love immigrants, because you were immigrants in Egypt.” -Duet.10:18,19
“In everything I did, I showed that by this kind of hard work we must help those who are weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’” -Acts 20:35
Thank you for prayerfully considering this opportunity to join in what God is doing to reach the nations right here in our backyard!
