One of our practices at Davisville church is to provide opportunities for people to discover and grow in faith. We call this practice LEARN.
Learning Communities (LCs) are opportunities for you to come together with others in person or online to learn about God, God’s Word, God’s heart for the world, and how you fit into it all. We offer LCs throughout the year that are led by a moderator or teacher. Each course typically lasts six to eight weeks. Some LCs are discussion based and some are lecture oriented. Some LCs are designed for those with questions about faith and some are designed to equip maturing believers. Wherever you are at in your faith journey we invite you to learn along with us. Going through all the core LCs will give you a good foundation of faith, but completing all these core courses is not the goal. The goal is to fully follow Jesus and influence others to do the same. This requires you to not only gain a foundation of faith, but it asks that you live out your faith in real time.
Learning Communities are geared toward two different audiences.
Discover Audience: Designed for those who want to explore faith and ask questions about it.
Equip Audience: Designed to give people the knowledge and skills to mature in faith.
* Courses do not need to be completed in any particular order.
Listed below are the Learning Communities that are currently in our rotation. LCs that are scheduled and accepting registrations will be posted below this list.
Starting Point (Discover)-
- Starting Point is an engaging group experience where you can explore faith, free from pressure and judgment. Whether you grew up in church, discarded your faith, or want to revisit faith this is a great place to start.
Belief and Doubt (Discover)-
- In this course you will discuss and question core Christian beliefs. The sessions will provide strong Biblical support for these beliefs, but will also encourage participants to voice their questions, objections, and doubts. The goal is for participants to wrestle with these beliefs and come to their own convictions regarding them.
From Genesis to Revelation (Equip)-
- These sessions will explore the books of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. As followers of Jesus we need to not only read the Bible, but understand how each book, collection of books and the genres work together so we can share God’s story with others.
Grasping God’s Word (Equip)-
- Grasping God’s Word (GGW) offers participants the opportunity to develop their skills in reading, interpreting, and applying the Bible to life. Some of these skills include recognizing literary structural elements, determining word meanings, understanding the role of context, and how to use a concordance.
Discipleship In Action (Equip)-
- The Discipleship In Action course seeks to provide people with an understanding of discipleship, a simple plan for how to engage in it, and the confidence to practice it.
The Heart of a Leader (Equip) -
- By looking at the life of Jesus, the Scriptures, and other materials participants will develop a biblically grounded outlook on leadership. Participants will also gain a greater understanding of how God designed them as a leader so they can lead others effectively.
We also offer periodic small group studies. Click below for details.
